Well, all went smoothly today and we ended up with 36 battery hens.  We have already homed 10 and have offers of homes for another 16. So we are keeping 10 as they are the first batch and that is homes for all of them within the first week.
They are already outside in the garden pecking away. Most of them are a little nervous, but they are in quite good condition for battery hens so I think we have been eased in gently for our new venture. Here are some pix of a few of the ladies...

We had a call from some friends wo said that someone had taken them a little goat that they found abandoned on the bog. They asked if we could take him as they knew we already had two billy goats.  He is a lovely little billy but he has the biggest pair of testicles I have ever seen on anything this size!!!!!  He won't have them for long though as we have already contacted the vet with the big snips!   He is quite emaciated and we think he may be full of worms. He had lots of lice so we have treated that, all the goats will be wormed in the morning.
We are getting our first batch of battery hens tomorrow so check back on our blog for an update..

I am not going in THAT!!
Well, after much hard work and quite a few Euro's spent. The shed is now finished.

Needless to say, Gobbles was NOT impressed!  Steve had to 'help' him into it as he refused to go. So with a little guiding shove up the bottom, in he went. I am hoping that within a few days he will learn to love his new shed.
These sheds are fantastic, we got it from B&Q in Galway for €230 and is perfect for our little gang. We are hoping to buy another one for the ducks.

Helpful goat!
Before we got the goats we were told that we would have our work cut out as goats can be very mischevious. But, we took no notice and just commented with, "They can't be that bad"!!  Well, today the little darlings decided to help me peg the washing out ,only they are a little on the short side to reach the line. Vince had a bright idea that if he stood on the coal bunker it would help!l  I had just decided to check out of the door to see if they were behaving themselves and caught them like this!

Babs & the chickies

Well, chicky one, two and three are now 7 weeks old and have certainly grown somewhat!   we are quite sure that the reddish one is a male and we have now named 'him' T-Bag. Any suggestions for names for the 2 white ones would be gratefully appreciated.
